Skype introduces pay-to-call service

Skype have introduced a new pay-to-call service, allowing for both voice and video calls to be charged either per minute, or for a one-off fee. Unlike premium rate lines from traditional phone providers, Skype Prime can be available internationally: the only restriction is that you’re in a country in which you can withdraw money to Paypal.

It’s not cheap - Skype keep 30% of whatever you’ve chosen to charge - and perennial favourites adult and gambling lines are both banned. However, as calls begin free, with providers then sending a payment request for callers to accept and pay via their Skype credit, this could be a useful tool for those providing all sorts of services, from technical to tarot. And of course, it’s another step towards Skype earning back its controversially high purchase price.

[...] Skype this week have announced another new feature to go with Skype Prime. Skype Find allows users to add details and reviews of local businesses. It’s not world-changing, it’s not even especially unique - but imagine it with mapping, maybe even with GPS built in, and it starts to look like something fairly powerful. Even in the real world, you can’t get away from eBay-generated feedback! [...]
