eBay Motors UK sells millionth vehicle

The Motors section of eBay UK has just notched up its millionth sale, a 1998 Saab to a buyer in Kent. Just five years after the site’s launch, senior manager Jody Ford said that it now sells a vehicle every minute. eBay say that Motors UK is the most visited automotive site in the country, averaging 3.5 million visitors every month.

I bought my lovely Fiat Barchetta on eBay, and Chris bought his white van from a Motors’ Classified. And when we wrote the Espace off on Monday, eBay was the first place I turned: I’m fairly sure my first purchase from Motors France will be happening next week!

I suppose that officially makes my Triumph Vitesse “one in a million” then!

It was my first major ebay purchase, and went like a dream from first bid to to driving it off the ferry from Holyhead. Sure, it rattles a bit (ok, it shudders like apollo 13 on re-entry if you try go anywhere near 70 mph) but it’s great fun and it was a perfect advertisment for everything that was good about ebay - Legitimate item, the excitement of a bidding war with a real opponent, a good final price, and buyer & seller satisfaction.

I’d love a Barchetta, but the whole “big fat git who’s never buying a Fiat again, least of all a left-hooker for driving through the “Death race 2000″ scenario that is rush hour Dublin” thing is putting me off…
