Wanted: Graduates who make money on eBay

Nic Paton is a a journalist working for The Guardian’s Graduate section and looking for eBay sellers to help with an article he’s writing.

The article will look at graduates, both current and recently graduated, who “moonlight” running businesses on eBay or elsewhere online. Nic told us that the aim of the article is to give graduates an idea of how straightforward it is to do, what sort of money can be made and what issues they need to be thinking about (i.e. things like remembering to pay tax!).

Are you a student who either makes a bit of money on the side perhaps to pay off your student loan more quickly or who have found they started this way and grown a business from there? If so Nic would like to speak to you and you can contact him at nic@cormorantmedia.co.uk

    I am reminded by an earlier post on this blog about mentioning ebay in an article. :roll: Students making ends meet is as old as the hills, what with part time jobs, fiddling the system, joining the reserves etc.. eBay wouldnt be taking out a couple full page ads in the Guardian would they?

    Anyway, I am not sure I would have had the time at uni to flog stuff on ebay, what with all the course work, drinking and other time intensive social activities. :grin:

    I started selling stuff through Ebay while at Uni as a mature student in my 1st year to pay my way along with a part time job. By the third year I had quit the job and taken the business full time. Managed to scrape a 2:1 but will never use it as my business when I graduated 5 years ago was far lucrative than any ‘graduate opportunity’ paying minimum wage & even more so now.

    I must confess that I funded much of my final few terms by selling on eBay (as well as working at the company).

    I graduated in December 07 with a degree in electrical engineering, but used ebay in the last 3 years of my course to bring in some cash. It began as a little hobby but has now grown and is my full time business, which will hopefully expand greatly over the next couple of years. So, enginering isn’t too useful to me right now!
