Cheap listing: unannounced free gallery promo

by Chris Dawson

This post was written in March 2008; specific information contained within it may be out of date.

Free GalleryIn what appears to be an unannounced cheap listing promotion eBay are offering free gallery, at least to sellers. It appears on the Sell Your Item form flow simply as Gallery Picture (free) with the normal cost of 15p struck out.

Further through the Sell Your Item flow is another reminder, along with an explanation that the free gallery is a limited time sale. There’s no information to suggest how long the sale might last or if indeed it’s offered to all sellers or just selected users.

TameBay reader Kevin sent in the screenshots showing the promotion offers, currently they are not appearing in TurboLister or other listing tools and it’s unknown if sellers using listing tools will see discounts on their eBay invoices.

If you’re getting the free gallery discount let us know in comments below.

Whoop and more whoop, I am getting it!

Just listed a 10 day featured listing in 2 cats, bold, subtitle etc £65.00, I was really chuffed to save 30p

Off now to see if it works on shop listings.

  2. whirly on March 18th, 2008 9:39 am

And I can report it does not work for SIF.

  3. Kevin on March 18th, 2008 9:39 am

    All ads up Martin

Good one eBay, the only thing I have found is if you multi re list then the free gallery does not apply, but re list one at a time it does show as free,
    Sean

According to what Tropicanauk has found out on the PS board ( http://forums.ebay.co.uk/threa.....5833489688 ) this is a BIN listing offer

From Pink Richard “More news on this coming to the Announcement Board later today - but no mistake, Gallery is free today and…” not sure what… means  perhaps he forgot and went off to check!!

Ohh nice one guys! So it’s until the end of the month for auction and BIN! :-D

  9. Biggles on March 18th, 2008 10:45 am

    YAY!

Dare we hope this is the start of free gallery? Long overdue!!!

  10. whirly on March 18th, 2008 11:20 am

Sounds like Richard might be implying more announcements later.

  11. Sue Bailey on March 18th, 2008 11:54 am

Or that the AB post only went up at 9.57, Richard was posting at 10.06 so didn’t realise it’d been announced? I really hope this is a permanent thing though.

    no doubt its a trial

ebay will be matching the loss of gallery fees
with increased take up and final value fees .
if it works out to their advantage its a chance of being permanant,

Free Gallery is working well in the US, perhaps it will become permanent in the UK as well.

Only a matter of time…me thinks

  16. Eddie on March 18th, 2008 5:42 pm

Hmmmmmmmmm, eBay giveth and eBay taketh!

Please be aware that items listed from 18th to 31th of March 2008 will not be shown by default on the eBay.com site…….

  17. Chris Dawson on March 18th, 2008 6:27 pm

Hey Eddie - that’s a mistake… according to pinkie Olly, they’ll be revising the terms. So good news - free gallery AND retain .com visibility where applicable :-)

  18. Jon Feest on March 19th, 2008 9:59 am

… according to pinkie ollie ” night is day ” and ” cheese is made from wheat ”
I think I will wait and see if this “mistake” is really a mistake or whether Ollie just was not told buy the US that they had pushed certain buttons….
    call me cynical…

    hi -

the listings galleries look so much better with images.

looking more attractive, visualy more informative, is surely a compliment to the positive buyer expierience, converting into sales no doubt.

very dissapointed that .co.uk wasn’t included when the .com free gallery was announced earlier this year.

hoping that the current free gallery benefit, is actually a trial dressed as a gift, that becomes the norm - soon.

    - it’s working in the usa - it’ll work in the uk too.

    fingers crossed,

    justin time.

Just had a look at some items I bulk re-listed last night. The Gallery fee has NOT been charged.

    Suz x

PS- Call to PS Support told me that individually it would work but not on bulk edit, upload or Turbolister

*is cross that isnt getting it - but pleased for Paul x

  22. Josordoni on March 25th, 2008 5:20 pm

    Very odd Suz….

Try emailing PS and see if you get a different adviser, or ask to speak to a supervisor as we are getting the discount, so you should be too…

  23. Suz on March 25th, 2008 5:25 pm

    Cheers Jade
Waiting to get an account manager :)
So will be raising it asap!

  24. Suz on March 25th, 2008 5:35 pm

    Hi
    (hangs head in shame)
Checked the invoice - and its not there, so its showing as charged on SYI and TL - but its not going on to the invoice

    (Crawls back under rock)

Why on earth did the lady on PS support tell me I wasnt elligible as I use multi lists then?

    Suz xxx

  25. Chris Dawson on March 25th, 2008 5:49 pm

Don’t worry Suz - I’ve done the same in the past

  26. Josordoni on March 25th, 2008 7:12 pm

Why on earth did the lady on PS support tell me I wasnt elligible as I use multi lists then?

If you think she was reading from the wrong instruction manual, try speaking to Royal Mail customer service about what is and isn’t covered for insurance….

  27. Paul on March 25th, 2008 7:21 pm

No worries Suz, we’ve all done it.

From what I’ve been told by ebay CS, if you use Turbo Lister the discount doesn’t show when you upload, but, you do get the discount.

Also looking at my invoice today you also get the free gallery if you relist.

As usual it seems ebay have given it’s different info to different advisers, either that or they haven’t given them any info at all.
