eBay Desktop gets its own blog

Hopefully less controversial than eBay’s Other New Blog, eBay have a new eBay Desktop Blog, talking about the non-browser application.

Written by Alan Lewis, Desktop’s Product Manager, the blog has only three posts so far, but shows all the signs of ‘getting’ blogging and how eBay should be using it. The most recent post, for example, says that eBay are aware of sign-in problems; it’s been updated to say that the problems should be fixed but please leave a comment if you’re still having difficulties. *That’s* the sort of communication that users need, the sort where the person fixing the problem tells you they’re fixing it, and invites you to communicate if the fix hasn’t sorted things.

And it runs on Wordpress, which is a sure sign of a blogger who knows what they’re doing ;-)

    Lynne, I believe it’s .com only, but writing this post I realise we haven’t looked at Desktop properly at all, so it’s on my list for the next day or three. I’ll let you know :lol:

    Randy, *you* said that, I didn’t. :razz:

    My first blog started on Blogger. I still have blogs which run on Blogger (because I’m too lazy to move ‘em).

    But FWIW, after Blogger, Wordpress is just a dream. And it does stuff, good stuff. If anyone’s wondering which platform to start a blog on, put the extra effort in and start on Wordpress.

    And if Randy wants me to set him up a WP blog, I am more than happy to do so. :-D

    Randy just do it, it’s so much nicer for commenters not to have some mis-sized box that makes you squint to type into :-p

    Apart from anything else the ease of installing plugins to do any number of superb tricks is amazing - even I managed it on another blog (almost) all my myself :grin:

    Having used blogger, typepad and Wordpress, I have no doubt which I prefer. :cool: But it does take a bit more technical wizardry.

    Re the eBay blog. When a pretty niche product gets one, one does wonder why number 3 national marketplace (the UK) doesn’t.

    Just noticed the incoming link to desktop.ebay.com from here. So did you try out eBay Desktop yet, Sue?

    I’ve been blogging for years on Typepad (albeit infrequently) and Wordpress is pretty good so far. Of course I have a rock star system administrator so I don’t have to worry about keeping the blogging lights on.
