eBay Spain to hide winning bidder IDs

eBay SpaineBay Spain have announced that they are to extend the policy of hiding bidders’ IDs to cover winning bidders too. Currently, bidders’ identities are masked throughout the course of the auction but the winning bidder becomes visible once the auction has ended. eBay say that winning bidders are currently being targetted with spam and fraudulent requests for payment, so winners’ identities are to be hidden even once the auction has finished. Sellers will be able to see IDs of both winners and unsuccessful bidders.

Watch for this one coming to an eBay site near you very soon.

eBay Spain advantage Spanish listings in search results

eBay.eseBay Spain have announced that they are to boost the position of Spanish sellers’ listings in search results. The translated announcement is:

Dear Member:
We have changed the way we are presenting items in search results, giving greater weight to the location of the article. The first results should now be items located in Spain from sellers with satisfactory DSR scores.
Best wishes,
The eBay Spain team

Last night, the announcement was signed by the eBay Canada team, but it’s now been edited. I assume this is because eBay Canada have also introduced location as a factor in search sorting.

I’ve been hearing rumours about this happening on various eBay sites for a while. It seems a retrograde step: all the work eBay have done to discourage location misrepresentation would be undone by boosting local listings under Best Match. Nevertheless, those of us who list a significant number of items on sites that aren’t our own home site need to bear in mind the possibility that this will be rolled out generally.

eBay Spain’s default search sort remains Best Match (Relevancia) and there has been no announcement that this has changed.

eBay Spain introduces PowerSeller discounts

August 11, 2008

This post was written in August 2008; specific information contained within it may be out of date.

eBay SpaineBay Spain have announced that from 24th September, Spanish PowerSellers will receive a discount of 20% on their Final Value Fees, so long as they have a minimum DSR rating of 4.5 on each of the four criteria over the previous 30 days. The discount will apply to Spanish-registered PowerSellers who are resident in Spain, regardless of PS level.

The minimum rating is a little lower than the 4.6 required for PS discounts on eBay UK and eBay.com. Anecdotal evidence from sellers says that Spanish buyers on average leave lower feedback ratings than British or American buyers, and the more generous discount criterion might suggest that eBay’s own figures support this.

If eligible sellers have previously declined invitations to join the PS program, they need to contact Customer Support.

[P.S. M. von Schirmeister, can we please have some discounts on eBay.fr? Merci.]

eBay Spain gets ‘report this item’ links

eBay Spain have announced that “report this item” links have been added to the bottom of all item pages on eBay.es. The “Informar sobre este artículo” links allow users to quickly inform eBay of items which break listing policies and other rules.

Most other eBay sites have had these links for a while now, beginning with eBay Australia back in 2005.
