November 15, 2008

eBay.beeBay Belgium are offering free insertion fees on auctions and BIN listings for Sunday and Monday 16th and 17th November, provided sellers offer free domestic shipping. All other fees are charged as normal. Expect to see more of this promotion on all eBay sites as we get nearer to Christmas.

Free listing day on eBay.fr this Thursday

November 11, 2008

eBay France are holding a free listing day this Thursday, 13th November, for French-resident business sellers. Insertion fees for both auction-style and BIN listings will be waived. Motors’ categories are excluded and all other fees apply as normal.

Free subtitle for French PowerSellers

November 4, 2008

eBay FranceeBay France is offering free subtitles for PowerSellers until the end of the year. French resident business-registered PowerSellers can save 20c on the listing upgrade until 31st December.

Keywords in subtitles don’t show up in a title search - though they do show in title + description, for what that’s worth. It’s not an upgrade I’ve ever wanted to pay for, but now it’s free, I’ll certainly be testing it out.

Free listing weekend on eBay Belgium

October 31, 2008

eBay Belgium is dropping all insertion fees for auctions and fixed price listings this weekend, 1st and 2nd November 2008. All other fees apply as normal.

25% off FVF with free P&P for media sellers

October 30, 2008

eBay are reducing the final value fees for items sold in media categories by 25% for the whole of November and December when free postage is offered.

Sellers will need to offer free domestic P&P to qualify for the discounts. Free P&P will become compulsory from 27th January for DVD’s with maximum rates set for other media items.

In order to qualify the first domestic postage needs to be set with a cost of £0.00, although other premium services (such as recorded or special delivery) can be charged as can International post.

It’s important to realise that increasing prices to include postage in the buy it now price is likely to affect placement in Best Match and will lose any Recent Sales boost in search results. In this case “Free” postage really does need to be “Free”. However if you’re launching new listings or using the auction format you can take full advantage by rationalising your prices to build postage costs in.

There seems little doubt that eBay will move towards capped or free postage for many categories on the site. For sellers who will have to offer free P&P or reduce their shipping rates at the end of January a 25% discount on FVF is the perfect incentive to make the changes now rather than wait until they’re forced to in the New Year.

2p International Site Visibility: 6th Nov - 7th Dec

October 30, 2008

eBay are reducing the price of the International Site Visibility listing upgrade for a whole month in the run up to Christmas. If you sell using the auction listing format you can attract buyers from the US and Canada by making your items available on eBay.com and eBay.ca for just 2p per listing.

The normal cost of the ISV listing upgrade starts at 5p rising to 15p for listings with a start price over £30.00. There are a few exclusions and the normal insertion fees for eBay UK will still apply.

This is a great way to get some extra exposure for the Christmas selling season, and the last posting date for International Airmail to the US and Canada is the 10th December so the promotion finishes with time to get sales shipped.

Free auction listings on eBay.it tomorrow

October 27, 2008

eBay Italy are offering free insertion fees for auction-style listings starting at 99c or lower tomorrow, 28th October. The promotion is open to all sellers except in Motors categories. All other fees apply as normal.

eBay France extends BIN fee promotion

October 27, 2008

eBay France has announced that the promotional pricing it has been running in October is to be extended to the end of the year. Buy It Now listings will have an insertion fee of 15c, regardless of start price or quantity listed. In addition, sellers with all four DSR scores at 4.5 or higher will save 10% on their final value fees. The promotion is for business sellers only, and remains in effect until 31st December 2008. Fees for auction-style listings remain on the normal tariff announced in August.

Powersellers banned from free listing promo

October 14, 2008

There’s a free listing weekend on the 18th - 19th October, but not for PowerSellers or Business registered users.

Items listed with a start price of 99p or under can be listed for free by domestic users of the site. The promotion only applies to the auction format, fixed price listings and certain categories are excluded from the promotion.

To be honest it’s no surprise to see professional sellers barred from the promotion, the new fixed price listings with multiple quantities are the way forward for most sellers. It’s not such good news for the pro-sellers who exclusively list in the auction format as they’ve seen final value fees rise and a free listing weekend would have been a nice bonus.

It is good to see eBay encouraging casual sellers and buyers listing on the site, it’ll be very interesting to see just how many new auctions are listed over the weekend period. I suspect the site won’t be flooded with new listings to the extent it has been of previous listing promotions, although doubtless a few sellers may use buying accounts to launch auctions and save a few pennies.

5¢ on 14th October for eBay Canada

October 13, 2008

eBay Canada are holding a cheap listing day on the 14th October for Auctions and Buy It Now listings. To qualify for the discounted rates shipping has to be specified.

The promo is only open to Canadian residents, and has the normal exceptions (Motors, Property etc) and doesn’t include Shop Inventory Format listings which are still available in most countries outside the UK.

Auction your car for free on eBay.ie Motors

October 3, 2008

For the entire month of October, eBay Ireland are offering free insertion fees for car auctions. The offer applies to the Cars subcategory of Cars, Parts & Vehicles, and to auction listings only. The basic auction insertion fee, normally €9, is being waived; all other fees apply as normal. BINs and classified ads are not eligible, though it’s not absolutely clear whether auction-with-BIN is excluded too, or whether those listings will just be charged the BIN upgrade fee.

eBay Italy offers 75% off Featured First

October 3, 2008

From 6th to 10th October, eBay Italy are offering 75% off the price of 7-day Subito In Vetrina (a.k.a. Featured First). The offer is open to sellers with all four 12-month DSR scores at 4.3 or more. All other fees apply as normal.

50% off FVF for free shipping on eBay Aus

October 2, 2008

eBay Australia are offering a 50% discount to PowerSellers who list with free shipping between Wednesday 8th and Tuesday 14th October.

The Aussie site has recently launched a new Free Postage Hub and qualifying items will be included in the hub.

eBay point out “We know this may not work for everyone, but if you’ve never tried offering free postage before, this is the perfect opportunity to test it out on a few items and see how you go. Who knows, you could just boost your sales and soon be listing all your items with free postage!”

Free post is definitely a selling tactic all sellers should experiment with, it can produce great results, especially if your competitors aren’t offering free post.

eBay.ca 5c auction CLD 23rd September

September 22, 2008

eBay Canada are holding a cheap listing day on 23rd September. Insertion fees for auctions only are reduced to 5c, so long as you’re a Canadian-resident seller, and you specify shipping prices. Media items, which have their own fee tariff, are also included.

Half-price listings on eBay.be 21st & 22nd September

September 20, 2008

eBay Belgium are offering half price listings on both auctions and BIN listings on Sunday 21st and Monday 22nd September. Prices for the lowest two tranches (which would work out to 2.5c and 7.5c respectively) will be rounded up. Other fees apply as normal.

10c listing weekend for Irish sellers

September 15, 2008

For Saturday and Sunday, 20th and 21st Sept 2008 Irish sellers can list auctions and Buy it Now listings for just 10 cents.

This promo is just days before the fee changes on the 25th, which will see multiple item Buy It Now listings available on the Irish site for as little as 2 cents for Anchor shops and 6 cents for featured shops. Perversely, given that eBay are about to encourage them, multiple item listings are excluded from the promotion.

Sellers will need to consider their strategy for using this promotion. Relisting items that have sold should retain the recent sales boost in search, but if sellers list multiple listings for the same product they’ll be disadvantaged in search just a few days after the promotion.

A similar cheap listing day for eBay UK was edited to include multiple item listings, to fit with eBay’s current best listing practices.

eBay UK Motors half-price listing weekend 13th-14th September

September 10, 2008

Insertion fees to list any vehicle will be cut by 50% this weekend on eBay UK Motors. Whether you’re selling a narrowboat, a taxi or a car or motorbike, the listing fee on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September will be just £4; the offer applies to both auction and BIN listings. All other fees apply as normal.

eBay.fr 15c CLD Thursday 11th September

September 9, 2008

eBay France are offering what they call a taste of the new fee schedule this Thursday. Insertion fees for all auctions and BINs are 15c, including multiple-item listings, regardless of start price. All other normal fees apply, and as usual Motors and Media, which have their own fee schedules, are excluded.

Calling this a taste of the new fee schedule is, frankly, misleading: only auctions with start prices lower than €1 will have insertion fees as low as 15c.

Polish sellers list for 5c on eBay.com 5th-6th September

September 4, 2008

On 5th and 6th September there’s a special promotion for Polish-resident sellers, who will be able to list on eBay.com for just 5c. The offer is valid for auctions and BIN listings, but sellers must offer PayPal as a payment method and have DSRs of 4.5 or above for all four criteria. (And yes, apparently we have a few Polish readers. Cześć to you all!)

eBay Aus offers 50% off FVF for free shipping

September 3, 2008

eBay Australia have just announced an interesting promotion - 50% off final value fees if free domestic postage is offered.

The promotion has been announced but will takes effect on the 10th - 14th September, that means that any 10 day listings starting up to tomorrow, and any 7 day listings starting up until the 7th will end during the promotional period.

eBay have been making strong suggestions that free shipping is desirable and it wouldn’t surprise me to see similar promotions come to the UK in the future.

If eBay were to offer a permanent 50% reduction in FVF for sellers that offered free shipping I’d be happy to take them up on the offer.

List for 5p on 4th September

September 1, 2008

There’s a cheap listing day for Thursday this week, Auctions and Buy it Now listings will have insertion fees lowered to just 5p.

Rather bizarrely the cheap listing day specifically excludes multiple item listings, although it runs during the multiple item promotion currently running until 23rd September.

Having encouraged sellers to place their inventory on a single listing ready for the fee changes, the cheap listing day is likely to break those multiple items down into single listings as sellers vie for visibility.

If you are going to list, work out the economics and if it’s better to have more listings or more cost effective to stick with a single listing for each line that you carry. The 5ps will start to add up if items don’t sell.

August 26, 2008

eBay.com Motors are offering insertion fees capped at 25c on parts’ and accessories’ listings from 26th to 30th August. Auction and BIN listings in the various parts’ categories and Apparel and Merchandise will qualify: actual vehicle listings will not. All other normal fees apply.

eBay Italy half-price listings 25th to 27th August

August 24, 2008

eBay Italy are holding a half-price listing promotion from 25th to 27th August. Insertion fees for BINs and auctions are approximately 50% off the normal price: fees for the €0,99 and €9,99 tranches, which would have been 7½c and 12½c respectively, have been rounded up (really, how stingy does that look?). All other fees still apply and there are, as ever, some exclusions; read the small print before you list.
