eBay Australia cheap listing days for Computers
July 24, 2008
eBay Australia are holding four days of cheap listings for the Computers category. From 26th to 29th July 2008, sellers can save 25% on insertion fees and 25% on FVFs. The offer is valid for Australian resident sellers listing in the Computers category of eBay.com.au only, and applies to both auctions and BINs. All other fees apply as normal.
eBay have been doing quite a bit of experimenting with fees in technology categories recently, most noticeably 1p listings for two weeks in UK technology categories. This promotion is slightly unusual in that it discounts both up-front and final value fees, and no doubt eBay will be closely watching how this affects seller behaviour.
eBay Motors parts and accessories CLD 22nd - 24th July
July 22, 2008
eBay US Motors are capping insertion fees at 20c for listings in some categories, from 22nd to 24th July. Listings for tires, wheels, rims, hubcaps and some other ‘pimp my ride’ categories are eligible for the reduced fees, which apply to both auction and BIN listings. Please check the categories included before you list. All other normal fees apply.
eBay have hinted several times recently that they’re looking at more category-specific fee structures; it’s interesting to watch the cheap listing days as they test this out.
25% off fees for Aussie computer sellers

Computer sellers in Australia will be waking up to news of a four day fee reduction starting on Saturday. All items listed by Australian sellers between 26th and 29th July in the computing category will receive 25% off insertion and final value fees.

eBay.com 25¢ fixed price discount 16-29th July
July 16, 2008
On the day the two week 1p fixed price technology promotion ends in the UK the US have announced a 25¢ fixed price promotion for the rest of July.
The promotion page starts with the question “Stores Sellers: Want more exposure?” suggesting “Move your Store listings to Fixed Price”. Although the 25¢ isn’t as generous as the 1p listings in the UK it does cover almost all of the eBay.com categories.
eBay are definitely embracing fixed price listings in preference to auctions as never before. With the new Best Match technology they seem confident that they can still present the best selection to buyers without being flooded either with irrelevant information or with one seller’s items hogging the first page of search results.
It’ll be very interesting to see the next pricing changes where I’d expect to see changes along similar lines to encourage sellers to list more inventory at an affordable rate.

And if this seems like another eBay site running with the same CLD over again, you’re right.

List sale items free on eBay France
June 15, 2008
On 25th and 26th June, eBay France is holding a free listing day for items listed as part of their summer sale promotion. The rather complicated terms of the offer are that
- business sellers who have an eBay Shop should
- list items at fixed price or 30 day BIN
- using the word ’solde’ or ’soldes’ (sale) in their item title and
- use Markdown Manager to apply a discount to their item.
Insertion fees will then be refunded within 6 weeks of the listing. Sellers can also have scheduled listing free under the same terms.
Other normal fees apply, and Motors and Media categories which have their own fee schedules are not included.
French sellers are being trusted to respect French law with regard to offering sale items: for those used to eBay UK’s rather more rigid rules about when Markdown Manager can be applied, this will make a refreshing change.

June 9, 2008
eBay have just announced a 5p cheap listing day for this Thursday, 12th June for auctions and buy it now listings. There are a few exclusions so check before you list.
This is one I won’t be able to take advantage of as I’m off to Chicago for eBay Live! at the weekend, but it should be welcome news for everyone still listing on eBay UK this week.

eBay India international listing fee sale
June 6, 2008
eBay India is holding a sale on the price of international listings. Sellers can choose to have their items show internationally for just 50% of the normal fee. The offer applies to BIN and auctions, single and multiple items, but not to SIF and classifieds. Other fees are charged as normal.
The offer is valid from 9th to 22nd June 2008. I’m assuming the “5 days only” in the title is an error generated when they copied the previous similar offer into the new announcement.
eBay India holds month-long listing sale
June 2, 2008
eBay India has announced a sale on listings in the Jewellery and Apparels & Accessories categories. From 2nd to 30th June, sellers can list as many items as they like for an insertion fee of Re. 1 per listing. Better still, total listing fees will be capped at Re.1500/- so that all items after the first 1,500 are free to list.
The announcement goes on to say “credits for the above promotion will be issued in the month of July ’08″, which tends to suggest that sellers will be billed the full amount and then be credited later. Still, if you’re a higher volume seller, this could be a useful opportunity to dump a lot of inventory onto eBay. The offer is valid for Indian residents listing on eBay.in only.
eBay Germany slashes insertion fees to 1c
May 28, 2008
eBay Germany have announced a massive cut in insertion fees for business sellers in certain categories over the next two and a half months. From 29th May to 16th August, sellers in electronics and books categories will pay just 1c insertion fees for Buy It Now listings (including multiple item listings) if they offer PayPal as a payment method. Categories included in the offer are:
- Audio & Hi-Fi
- Books
- Computer
- Photo & Camcorder
- TV,Video & Elektronics
The 1c insertion fee includes Gallery pictures.
Excluded from the offer are private sellers, Stores listings and Auction listings. There’s a bit more small print, so do read it before you list.
eBay have made lots of noise in recent months about linking fees to seller success (i.e. lower IFs and higher FVFs), and about encouraging sellers to list their entire inventory on eBay. By presenting it as a special offer rather than a permanent price change, they retain the facility to change things as they see how the new pricing affects sellers’ listing behaviour. I don’t think this will be the last of this kind of offer we see.
